Zayn Malik born Zain Javaad Malik on January 12, 1993 in Bradford England always had a love for singing. With dreams of performing and becoming a singer Zayn with the push of his mother auditioned for the X Factor UK in 2010 at the age of 17. Zayn was eliminated near the final round of the auditions bootcamp when Simon Cowell, producer and creator of the show, decided to take Zayn and four other boys and form a boy band. They performed together and became a very popular act on the show, until they were eliminated. They received third place on the show and left without anything. So they thought. Soon after the ending of the show word broke out that Cowell signed the boys to a record deal. In September 2011, the boys first single came out titled “What’s Makes You Beautiful and topped charts worldwide.

Zayn and the rest of the boys continued on the to create 4 albums together before the departure of Malik. Before his departure however, Zayn had always been the quiet one and had little to say about his new life that he was sprung into. Of course any young boy would be a little uneasy about all the attention but Zayn had a very hard time with it out of all the boys. In November 2014 One Direction performed on the Today show to promote their latest album Four. However the title of the album seemed a little ironic that day considering Zayn was not in attendance. This marked the first time Zayn had not performed with the rest of the boys due to “being ill.” We are unsure if he was actually ill or if this was the first sign of Zayn not wanting to do the “boy band thing” any longer.
In February of 2015 the On the Road Again Tour started up with all the boys on board and looking quite happy to be touring again. Little did we know that the following month would lead to the departure of Zayn Malik. It all started when rumors and photos broke out that Zayn was spotted holding hands and allegedly cheating on his fiancé Perrie Edwards of british girl band Little Mix. Many were unsure of what to believe because this wasn’t the first time Zayn was accused of cheating. With all that going on and no word of Zayn a statement was soon released that Zayn would be taking time off to head home due to “stress” and would not continue with the rest of the Asia tour dates. Days went by and many were sad but supportive of Zayn’s decision and patiently waited for his return. But to many’s surprise on March 25, 2015 Zayn Malik quit One Direction saying he wanted to be a normal 22 year old boy and out of the media’s attention. Many respected his decision and many were furious that he couldn’t at least finish out the tour that many paid for to see all 5 boys. Below a fan discusses how she feels about it all.
Although it all sounds silly to have a boy band member leaving his band affect someone, it happens. Especially to young teens who have been around since the beginning. Below are a few tweets from some disappointed fans.
Fans are obviously and visibly upset over it all. However there is hope for a reunion one day. Backstreet Boys lost a member and later on they all came back to make more albums. So there is hope right? In any case fans can look forward to Zayn working on new music without 1D. As much as many may be opposed to it all it’s most likely going to happen. One of Zayn’s close friends “Naughty Boy” released on his twitter a song himself and Zayn had recorded. It was a rough demo of a song that most likely won’t make any albums but it just proves that new music will be coming our way from Malik. So to fans wanting to hear Zayn’s voice live still, there’s hope. Whether it be with or without 1D, you will here more from Zayn. Although many are saddened by the news, the best thing to do is be supportive to both Zayn and the rest of the band. He seems to be in bright spirits as he recently took a trip with his fiancé and family and once arriving back home attended an award show with his mother and friend. He also tweeted this after not being on twitter since leaving 1D.
